My wife and I made the mistake one wet day, of leaving Guanabo where we were staying, to visit Playas de Este. We got out of our taxi at a large blue hotel and looked at the adjacent shops. Then we made the mistake of going and sitting at a table at the bar to have an aperitif prior to lunch. A SECURITY MAN appeared to ask my wife if she was Cuban and upon her saying yes, demanded that she should leave immediately, saying that I was Canadian, I could stay. I pointed out that the lady was my partner and that I too would leave, taking my wallet and contents with me - never to return to Playas de Este. Guanabo is much preferable and truly Cuban.
